Yankee Stadium finally closed and you’d think that they closed the Louvre, Buckingham Palace, Taj Mahal or the Vatican. While there has been a lot of history that occurred at the Stadium, most people, especially those directly involved with the Yankees were totally overwrought about the Stadium closing and being demolished. Please people, take a deep breath and move on.
It would’ve been nice to have closed the Stadium with a World Series, but if you looked at it from a non-biased point of view from the start of the season, you knew it wasn’t going to happen. Too many questions were all over the 2008 team beginning with the starting rotation. Too much emphasis was placed on Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy right from the start. Expecting 30+ wins from the two of them combined was kind if stupid and they didn’t live up to the hype.
Speaking of hype, when Joba Chamberlain moved to the starting rotation back in June or so, didn’t you expect him to be walking on water? Another mistake expecting a 22-year old with very limited experience to carry a team.
Good thing Melky wasn’t traded, right?
Good thing Robinson Cano got that 4-year, $30-million deal, right?
Next week (I hope), I’ll go over who I think should stay & who I think should go.
One more thing & I hate to predict this, but I think Yankee fans should get used to this kind of year for the next 3-4 years.
